Arsenal secured a 2-1 victory away to Mansfield Town to advance to the next round of the FA Cup, but the win came with fresh injury concerns ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
Mikel Arteta’s side took the lead before half-time when Noni Madueke cut inside from the right and finished with a low strike. The goal came after Piero Hincapie had already entered the match to replace Leandro Trossard, who was forced off due to an apparent injury, reports alldaysport.net
Mansfield Town responded early in the second half, equalising through Will Evans after taking advantage of a defensive mistake from Arsenal.
However, the visitors regained control later in the match when substitute Eberechi Eze scored the decisive goal to seal a 2-1 win for the Premier League side and secure their place in the next stage of the FA Cup.
The match created additional problems for Arteta, who was forced to make changes after Trossard left the pitch during the first half. Later in the game, defender Riccardo Calafiori also had to be substituted after experiencing discomfort.
After the match, Arteta confirmed that both players had picked up minor issues but did not provide many details about their conditions.
“Both of them, they had little niggles,” Arteta said.
“They were not comfortable to continue. And I knew that this could be a possibility, especially in the conditions that we’re playing today. So we had to take them off.”
Initial observations suggested that Trossard might have suffered a thigh problem, while Calafiori appeared to be dealing with a possible hamstring issue. Further medical assessments are expected in the coming days as Arsenal prepare for their important Champions League encounter./ALLDAYSPORT/
