Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has sent a strong message ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, insisting that the Gunners are “excited” and fully prepared for a fierce showdown with Premier League rivals Manchester City at Wembley.
The Brazilian centre-back, a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad, highlighted Arsenal’s strong season, with the team leading the Premier League and still competing in the Champions League and FA Cup. For Gabriel, the Carabao Cup final represents an important opportunity to secure Arsenal’s first major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in Arteta’s debut season.
“Of course we want to win every game. We are very excited for this one,” Gabriel said. “We know it’s going to be a big battle, but we are ready to fight and try to come out on top.”
At 28, Gabriel has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers this season, forming a formidable defensive partnership with William Saliba. Known for his “old school” defending style, Gabriel brings energy and aggression to every game, often celebrating crucial blocks with the intensity of a striker scoring a goal. In one notable incident against Bayer Leverkusen, he even absorbed a shot to the neck while denying a goal.
“Defending is an art just like attacking,” Gabriel added. “I try to bring energy and inspire my teammates on the pitch. Beautiful football isn’t just about passes – it’s about how you defend as well.”
Gabriel was among Arteta’s first permanent signings when he took over at Arsenal and views winning a trophy as a testament to the club’s progress under the Spanish manager.
“When I joined Arsenal, the project was impressive, and we all know how big this club is,” he said. “I’m here to win trophies, and now we have a real opportunity to do that.”
With Gabriel sending this warning, Arsenal fans will hope his determination helps the team secure silverware and continue their charge across all competitions this season.
