Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has decided to stick with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, maintaining his trust in the Spaniard for domestic cup competitions.
Kepa, who joined Arsenal during the summer transfer window, has been the club’s preferred choice in cup matches throughout the season. Despite David Raya being the regular starter in the Premier League, Arteta has opted not to change his approach for the final at Wembley.
The decision puts to rest speculation about a possible late switch in goal, with Arteta choosing consistency as Arsenal aim to secure their first major trophy since 2020.
On the opposite side, Pep Guardiola is also expected to rotate his squad, with backup goalkeeper James Trafford set to feature instead of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
For Kepa, the final represents a significant opportunity to claim his first League Cup title. The 31-year-old previously finished as runner-up twice during his time at Chelsea, and a victory would mark his first domestic trophy in England since his arrival in 2018.
Meanwhile, Arteta is also targeting silverware after a trophy drought in recent years. Since winning the FA Cup in 2020, the Spanish coach has been eager to add more titles to his record and re-establish Arsenal among the top trophy-winning clubs in England.
With both teams making bold selection choices, the Carabao Cup final promises to be a high-stakes encounter at Wembley.
