Arsenal have arrived in Lisbon ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Sporting CP, but Mikel Arteta’s side faces significant selection concerns due to multiple injuries.
The squad travelled from Luton Airport on Monday, with several key names missing from the trip, reports alldaysport.net
Speaking before the match, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that both Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber were not included in the travelling squad as they are still recovering and not match-fit.
In addition, Eberechi Eze, Piero Hincapie and Mikel Merino remain unavailable. Eze, who recently suffered a calf injury in a previous Champions League match, has yet to return to full training despite earlier speculation.
Around 20 players were seen departing for Portugal, giving a clear picture of the squad available to Arteta. Goalkeepers David Raya, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Khari Ranson are part of the group.
In defense, players including Ben White, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes were spotted, alongside midfield options such as Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Martin Zubimendi.
In attack, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyokeres are among the available options, with Gyokeres set to face his former club.
Although Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz were not seen at the airport, both trained earlier and are expected to be part of the squad.
Arteta confirmed that Rice, Gabriel and Trossard are fit to feature, while expressing hope that Saka and Timber could return for the weekend. “They are not ready yet, but hopefully we can have them back soon,” he said.
Arsenal face a busy schedule, with a Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth coming up this weekend, followed by the second leg against Sporting and a crucial clash with Manchester City./ALLDAYSPORT/
