After more than two decades of heartbreak, frustration, and near misses, Arsenal have finally returned to the summit of English football. The North London club are Premier League champions once again, bringing an emotional end to a 22-year wait that tested the patience of players, fans, and everyone connected to the club.
Mikel Arteta deserves enormous credit for transforming Arsenal into one of Europe’s elite sides. When results were inconsistent during the early stages of his project, many questioned whether the Spaniard was the right man for the job. However, the club’s owners stood firmly behind him, even after several painful title races ended in disappointment.
That faith has now been rewarded in spectacular fashion.
Over the last few seasons, Arsenal repeatedly came close to lifting the trophy but fell short at crucial moments. Supporters were left replaying missed opportunities in their minds — dropped points, costly defeats, and games that could have changed everything.
One issue consistently stood out during those campaigns: the absence of a world-class striker capable of delivering goals in decisive moments. While Arsenal developed into one of the strongest defensive teams in Europe, there were times when their attack lacked efficiency in front of goal.
That concern led the club to invest heavily in Viktor Gyokeres following his impressive performances at Sporting CP. The Swedish forward arrived with huge expectations and was viewed by many as the final piece needed to complete Arteta’s ambitious project.
His debut campaign, however, has produced mixed reactions.
Although Gyokeres struggled for consistency during large parts of the season, his recent performances suggest he may finally be adapting to the demands of English football. The striker has rediscovered his scoring touch in recent weeks and delivered several important contributions during Arsenal’s title run-in.
Despite his improved form, speculation surrounding Arsenal’s attacking options continues to intensify ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reports in Spain claim the Gunners remain interested in strengthening their frontline even further, with Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez emerging as a major target. Discussions with the player’s representatives are believed to have taken place, although Arsenal could face fierce competition for his signature.
Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly pushing to sign the Argentine forward, while Barcelona’s financial situation may prevent them from entering the race.
Any potential deal would likely require a massive transfer fee, with Alvarez valued at more than £100 million.
For now, though, Arsenal fans are focused on celebrating a historic achievement. After years of rebuilding, setbacks, and unanswered questions, the Premier League trophy is finally back at the Emirates Stadium.
