Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber has been left out of the Netherlands’ matchday squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League meeting with Germany.

The decision comes after the Dutch national team announced a 26-man squad for the current international window, with Timber initially included among the players called up by new head coach Xavi.

Despite being selected for the international camp, Timber will not feature against Germany after being omitted from the final group for the fixture.

Timber’s return after another injury setback

The Arsenal defender has endured a difficult period with injuries over the past several months.

Timber suffered an ankle problem in March that ruled him out for 52 days. He eventually returned to action in Arsenal’s Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30.

However, his comeback was followed by another setback after the Dutchman sustained a groin injury.

The injury forced Timber to miss the World Cup, Arsenal’s pre-season preparations and the opening part of the new campaign.

After spending 103 days away from competitive football, the 24-year-old finally returned to the pitch earlier this month.

He has since made two appearances for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta gradually brings him back into the first-team picture.

Timber included in Xavi’s first Netherlands squad

Timber’s return to the national team setup represented another positive step in his recovery.

New Netherlands boss Xavi decided to include the Arsenal defender in his first squad, despite Timber having played only a limited number of matches since returning from injury.

The Netherlands have a busy international schedule, with four UEFA Nations League fixtures during the current break.

However, Timber will have to wait for another opportunity to add to his international appearances after being left out of the squad for the Germany clash.

For Arsenal, the priority will be to ensure Timber continues his recovery without suffering another setback. His return could provide Mikel Arteta with another defensive option as the season progresses.

Arsenal fans will now be hoping Timber can remain fit

With the defender having already endured two significant injury spells, regular playing time will be important for Timber as he looks to regain his rhythm and establish himself in Arsenal’s squad.

His exclusion from the Netherlands team against Germany does not necessarily represent a setback in his recovery, particularly given the limited minutes he has played since returning.

Instead, the decision could allow the Arsenal defender to continue building his fitness gradually before returning to a more prominent role at club level.
