Martin Ødegaard has received encouraging news after undergoing an ankle scan following Norway’s defeat to Portugal.
The Arsenal captain was assessed by Norway team doctor Ola Sand on Tuesday after suffering an ankle problem during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Portugal. The examination did not reveal any serious damage, although Ødegaard has yet to return to full training.
Norway assistant coach Brede Hangeland said the medical team was pleased with the midfielder’s progress and noted that he was experiencing less pain than the previous day.
“There was nothing dramatic in those images,” Hangeland said, while stressing that the scan represents only one stage of the recovery process.
Ødegaard was absent from Norway’s training session on Tuesday, meaning his availability for the upcoming match against Wales remains uncertain. Norway are scheduled to face Wales on Thursday before meeting Portugal again in Porto on Sunday.
Ødegaard’s Recovery Remains Under Assessment
Although the scan provides positive news, it does not automatically mean that Ødegaard will be ready to play. His condition will continue to be monitored by Norway’s medical staff, with Arsenal also remaining in contact regarding his recovery.
Hangeland explained that Ødegaard was in good spirits and had less discomfort, while pointing out that there was still significant time before Norway’s next fixture.
The midfielder himself previously described the challenge from Bernardo Silva as a painful one after the Portugal match. However, the latest medical assessment has reduced concerns about a potentially lengthy absence.
Arsenal Will Continue to Monitor the Situation
Arsenal will be particularly interested in Ødegaard’s progress as the club prepares for its upcoming fixtures. The midfielder’s return to full training will be an important indicator of whether he can resume competitive action without aggravating the injury.
For now, Norway have not provided a definitive return date. Ødegaard remains under observation, and his participation against Wales is expected to depend on how his ankle responds to training and increased physical activity.
The latest update is therefore positive, but it should not be interpreted as confirmation that the Arsenal captain is fully fit.
