Arsenal open talks to sign Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso says ‘will win the Ballon d’Or’

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks to sign Arda Güler from Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Caught Offside.

The Gunners strengthened their squad significantly last summer, but there is still a belief within the club that further attacking reinforcements are needed as they continue their push for major trophies under manager Mikel Arteta, reports alldaysport.net

Arsenal remain in contention for both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this season, although neither campaign is guaranteed to end in success. If they fall short again, a further squad overhaul could follow in the summer.

Arsenal exploring Güler deal

Reports from Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have made contact with representatives close to Güler to assess the possibility of a move.

“Arsenal have been in touch with those close to Arda Guler to see if there’s any scope for discussing a transfer this summer. At the moment, he’s not giving the green light. They have sounded out this deal again but the answer still seems very much the same – he’s happy where he is, and there’s no indication that the club are ready to sell.”

Despite Arsenal’s interest, the Turkish midfielder is believed to be content at Real Madrid for now, and there is no indication that the Spanish giants are willing to sanction a sale.

The Gunners are also reportedly monitoring the situation due to uncertainty around Real Madrid’s internal coaching structure and the influence of figures such as Álvaro Arbeloa.

Previous valuation and competition

Earlier reports suggest Arsenal were prepared to pay around £87 million for Güler in January, highlighting the seriousness of their interest.

However, Real Madrid are unlikely to let go of a player widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young talents. Former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has even suggested Güler could one day “win the Ballon d’Or”.

Tactical motivation behind the move

Arsenal’s interest is also driven by creative struggles from players such as Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze this season, making the addition of an attacking midfielder a potential priority.

A signing of Güler’s profile would represent a major statement if Arsenal can convince both the player and Real Madrid to negotiate./ALLDAYSPORT/
